What I see in this whole week (1-8)
Assalamualaikum and Hello everyone! I hope you guys having an amazing day today! Not gonna lie, I’m having a really hectic week this past week but fiercely going through it without hastle. But I need to show something latest to make my blog look more fresh. So issue for this week is relating to the challenge to sustainable development .
For 22 years of my life, I never knew the real meaning of sustainability that actually closely related to everything that happen around me. Only after attending this class which is Ungs 1201, I just knew the true meaning of sustainability and for me sustainability is not easy to recognize and no solution that can simply be taken. If you want to solve a problem that involves the issues of sustainable, it is necessary to look back to this three component : environment, social and economy and if you removed one of them your solution will be biased. For your illustration, the issues of uncontrolled deforestation for industry production and urbanization like cutting down the trees. So why people keep cut down the trees? Because wood will used to make things such as buildings, furniture or paper. This job will indeed bring benefits to the economy. As I said above, they only look at one angle which is economy without know the consequences will occur to society as well as the environment.
The society I mean here is not only human but also includes animals. Can you imagine, if all the trees in the forest have been cut down then animal species that live in the trees no longer have their habitat, cannot relocate and therefore become extinct. Next, this may not direct result of deforestation but it is a consequences of climate change. Flash flood, landslides, global warming and many more is the biggest example that often happens in Malaysia. But if they make decision by only focusing at the impact that society and environment will be faced by not cutting down the trees they will not boost the economy of the country and not only that, they also cannot fullfuly the demand that human want such as wooden desks for school and home furniture. For me, why government turn blind eye because there is no strong reason for them to stop their action while by making that deeds they will get a lot of benefits or to make it clearer, money.
Just want to clarify, there are two ideology in this issues, the first one is capitalism where someone makes something only for her/his own sake and the next one is nationalism that explain someone makes something that is actually for personal gain but using country name for example opens up job opportunaties to cut down the trees. Doesn’t it obvious because I don’t think the cutting tree’s job will get a high salary while the trees can make a lot of income. Where do you think income from the trees go? This issue impact me the most because before this I never experiencing incident such as flash flood, landslides. For example when I watched news reporting something about natural disaster I just like ‘oh’ this is a mandatory thing that will happen when the monsoon season arrives while in fact we are the ones who created the issues itself.
From now on, I start make myself more interested in sustainability issues because deforestation is not the only issues happen, there are 17 sustainable development goals. To give an example for you, bringing paper bag to market to reduce the used of plastic because we know plastic is very difficult to disperse and also dangerous to marine life. Not only that, if I want to buy drink such as tealive I will bring my own cup instead using the papercup.
To conclude this week’s blog, I know it’s too hard to make something sustain but I want to emphasize that everyone wheter the government or society must play a role in overcoming the issues that we face. That’s all from me, see you next time. InsyAllah ☺
